Advent: Our King Has Come

The Christmas season is an opportunity to recount the mercy of God in the coming of Christ. Within the church, this time of year is traditionally referred to as “Advent,” a name derived from a Latin word that means “coming.” We celebrate Jesus’ first coming in lowliness and look with eager expectation toward His second coming in glory.

Join us for this special, 5-week series where we prepare for the celebration of Jesus' birth on Christmas and look ahead to His return.

Life in the Light

What makes our relationships genuine? Is it years spent together? Is it the things and ideas we have in common? Could it be our commitment to loyalty? While all of these are important for building strong relationships, they are useless if the foundation is missing. What is the foundation?

The Apostle John wrote these words to the church…

[5] This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. [6] If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. [7] But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. [8] If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:5-9 ESV)

In order to have true relationship (or fellowship) with God and each other, we must walk in the light. We are all tempted to hide, but God is calling us into the light so that we can have true relationship with Him and each other.

It's easy to live for ourselves. It's easy to live for the approval of other people. It's easy to fall into routine.

Jesus calls His followers to something greater.

We've been called to live sent.
